Gol Gala

Three years in, Gol Gala has become the most competitive 7v7 tournament in South Florida

Grass fields, licensed referees, a live stream and thousands of dollars on the line. The 2026 World Cup Edition was the biggest one yet.

The thing that separates a real tournament from a weekend kickabout is not the prize money. It is whether the details are handled.

Gol Gala has spent three years handling them. Matches are played on professional grass at OB Johnson Park in Hallandale Beach rather than the synthetic turf most South Florida events default to. The referees are licensed. The games are live-streamed. There is a photographer on the sideline, and the images that come back look like the ones you would see from a professional fixture, because they are shot by people who do that work.

The result is that teams treat it seriously, which is the only thing that actually makes competition competitive.

The 2026 World Cup Edition

This summer’s championship, played in June, was the largest Gol Gala to date, run in a World Cup format with thousands of dollars in prizes on the line. The tournament has now drawn more than a thousand attendees across its three years and its coverage has been seen more than three and a half million times.

The individual awards from the championship tell you something about where the level has landed. Kyle Reid of Los Fantasmas was named most valuable player. Fabio Orjuela of La Oficina took best goalkeeper. Paolo Belloni of SV Brickell won the Golden Boot. Those are not names from a recreational bracket.

The teams that built it

Athletic Core Fitness won the inaugural tournament in 2024, beating Por El Deporte in the final. Auld Dubliner 7’s took the 2025 title over Rovers FC. Both clubs have entered teams in multiple years, which is its own kind of endorsement — the sides that have already won keep coming back to defend it.

That continuity is what a tournament needs to become a fixture rather than an event. Three years in, there is now a competitive history in Miami 7v7 that did not exist before: past champions, rivalries, players with reputations, and a bracket that means something because of what happened in the previous ones.

What comes next

Gol Gala is presented by Sport Spectator, and the two operate as one thing: a Miami sports media outlet that also builds the competition it covers. That is unusual, and we think it is the point. The tournament gives us a reason to be on a field in Hallandale Beach with a camera, and the coverage gives the tournament a reason to exist beyond the ninety minutes.
